Why Circuit Training is the Best…
What is circuit training and why is it so effective? Should I be incorporating this into my workouts?
First off, all circuit training is basically putting 3 or more workouts together and having set time intervals or rep ranges for each workout and the rest times in between. So a good example of this would be doing 10 push-ups, 10 pull-ups and 10 dips with as little rest as possible in between each workout. Then after completing all 3 workouts, that’s 1 round/set and you rest 1 minute in between each round/set. You can do however many rounds/sets you’d like depending on how many workouts are in the circuit.
Why is this so effective?
Circuits are amazing because of their structure. By setting specific rep ranges and time intervals it forces you to have a consistent pace. You can’t take that long rest you may like! By keeping the pace up and choosing a rep range that challenges you, you’ll feel yourself get fatigued as the rounds go on and it only gets tougher.
Why are they so beneficial to your gains?
By keeping this high pace you’re going to burn more calories. Giving yourself little rest time keeps your heart rate up and increases blood flow to your muscles. So you’re not only still strength training, but you’re getting a mini cardio in as well!
How often should I do a circuit?
I say at least one day per week. The beautiful thing about circuits is you can do them on practically any day. Whether it be legs, chest, triceps, bicep, back, shoulder or even abs you can string 3 or more workouts together to create a circuit. By doing one per week you’ll increase your intensity, get a crazy pump and burn more calories than you probably usually do during your regular workout.
Start incorporating circuits ASAP!
