Want to Lose Weight? Here’s How!
Let’s be honest. Losing weight is a lot harder for some people than most, but I’m gonna tell you a little secret..It can be simplified a lot by using math.
I know what you’re thinking. “Really. Math, I hate math”. Don’t worry, I’m gonna break it down real simple for you.
1 pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories. Now a HEALTHY weight loss is a pound a week. Therefore, if you’re in a caloric deficit (meaning you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in) every day by 500 calories, you’d lose 1 pound in a week (7 x 500 = 3500).
Now this doesn’t mean stop eating. You need to eat to fuel your muscles for your workouts, maintain energy levels and get the proper nutrients in order for your muscles to grow/for you to get stronger.
It does mean that you need to start eating the right things and be keeping track so you know how much your daily intake is. A good app I suggest using for this is “My Fitness Pal”. It makes it pretty easy to keep track of what you’re eating and even gives you an idea of how much you should be taking in based on your goals.
As far as workouts go, you’re going to need to keep the intensity up. Now this doesn’t mean only doing cardio. Yes, it is one of the best ways to burn calories and you 100% need to do it. But, guess what? If you only did cardio you’d lose weight, but your muscle mass would be the same from when you started. If you want to look more toned, you need some muscle to show after losing the weight, otherwise unless you were jacked to begin with you’re most likely gonna have that skinny yet flabby look. You NEED to train along with the cardio. It not only will give you a better look, but will help your joints and will keep your body healthy especially as you age.
Now within your workouts, I highly suggest implementing supersets or circuit training. All this means is you’d pick 2 or more workouts and when you finish one, you’d go right onto the next one. This helps you limit your rest time and keep your heart rate up allowing you to burn more calories. After doing a few rounds of this despite the workouts you choose, you should be pretty fatigued. It’s way more efficient and you’d be surprised how much you can get done within 45 minutes. It’s basically “high intensity interval training” which I’m sure a lot of you have heard of, but supersets and circuit training sounds a lot less scary so let’s stick with that.
*BONUS*
If you have an apple watch or fitbit it will count how many calories you’re burning a day. Therefore, if you know how much you’re taking in and burning, a little bit of math and you’re in complete control of weight!
