Are You Training Specifically For Your Goals?

One of the biggest problems I see people face is they aren’t seeing the results that they want to see. They’re working out but not hitting their goals. Why is this?

There’s really three reasons people aren’t seeing the results they want.

  1. They aren’t dieting to benefit their lifts. A lot of people do the work physically then don’t fuel their body properly. If you’re lean and want to gain muscle mass you better be eating in a caloric surplus with lots of carbs and protein. If you’re trying to lose weight you can’t workout then go eat double the amount of calories you usually do because you’re hungry from the workout. It just isn’t going to work! You have to make sure you’re keeping track of what you’re taking in to meet your body’s needs.
  2. The second reason is they aren’t doing workouts tailored specifically for their goals. For example if you’re trying to gain muscle mass, maybe a half hour of cardio and a high intensity HIIT workout isn’t the best for you to do. That’s more for someone looking to lose weight. A person trying to gain muscle would want to take things a bit slower and keep the intensity up by lifting heavier. Another example is if you want to get better at benching than you should be benching every chest day or multiple times per week. You don’t get better at playing baseball by playing lacrosse! You have to actually do what you’re trying to get better at consistently over a long period of time!
  3. They aren’t being consistent! Nowadays everybody is about instant gratification. If they don’t see the result they want in a month they give up. You have to be consistent over a long period of time to see change. Things don’t happen overnight. So stop rushing to the end result and enjoy the ride this way you’ll never stop!

These things aren’t easy, but who said hitting your goals was gonna be? After all, isn’t that why we set goals? To challenge ourselves to get better?
