High Reps or Low Reps?

What’s better to do? A high number of reps or a low number of reps?

Well let’s start with what’s the difference?

Low reps with heavy weight tends to increase muscle mass, while high reps with light weight usually increases muscle endurance. This doesn’t mean that you have to do one over the other.

However, if you’re someone who’s looking to lose weight, the higher amount of reps may help to increase your heart rate and allow you to burn more calories. This will not only make you stronger, but will help you sweat and drop weight as well.

If you’re someone looking to gain some size and grow your muscles, then the low rep range with higher weight may be better. You’ll break down those muscle fibers allowing for them to come back thicker and stronger.

At the end of the day, both methods are great and super useful. Both should be done from time to time despite your goals, however you’ll usually stick to one more than the other depending on your body type.

Figure out what you’re trying to accomplish in the gym, and do what best fits you!
