Mind to Muscle Connection Will Change Your Workouts FOREVER…

Mind to Muscle Connection

What does having a mind to muscle connection really mean? In simple terms it means thinking about the muscle you’re working while performing a movement. Let’s dig a little deeper.

A lot of people just go to the gym and go through the motions then leave. I understand you’re not always going to be motivated and focused in the gym, so there’s bound to be days like this despite who you are. However, if this is you every time you workout, we have a problem. Will you get stronger this way? Maybe. But you’re missing out on massive gains!

You NEED to be focused on what muscle you’re working while you’re working it. For example if you’re doing curls and thinking “Biceps. My biceps are doing all the work. Contract that bicep. All the way up, all the way down. Nice slow and controlled, feel the bicep working” then you not only will be contracting the correct muscle, but you’ll be focused on your form too. And we all know good form also forces you to use the right muscles for each movement.

If you’re thinking about what you’re doing on Saturday while you’re doing curls, then you probably won’t be doing them correctly, won’t be isolating your bicep, and simply won’t be getting nearly as much out of the workout as you could be. Although you may feel you’re “working out” and that’s enough, it’s gonna take you a lot longer to see results and progress if you continue to workout this way.

How do I make sure I have a good mind to muscle connection?

Well for one thing, you need to educate yourself on what workouts hit what muscle. If you don’t know what muscle you’re working while performing a movement, then there’s zero chance you have a mind to muscle connection. Knowledge is power! There’s a learning curve to this and it may take a bit, but one by one you’ll add workouts to your arsenal.

You’ll also need to educate yourself on form. You may see a workout and try it, but if your form is off, you may not be isolating the correct muscle(s). If this requires getting a trainer to help you, do it. You can even learn through youtube nowadays.

Not to self promote here but if you’re one of these people, my website is perfect for helping you with this. The way it filters out what equipment you have access to and what muscle group you want to hit will allow you to know what workouts hit what muscles. Then for every workout you have a short 1-2 minute video of a certified personal trainer (me) to help teach/guide you through the movement. And did I mention it’s only $14.99/ month with a 7 day FREE trial… Okay enough on that.

Seriously though, you need to start focusing on the muscle you’re training to see the best results. Working out isn’t just physical, but mental too. In fact it’s probably more mental than physical! Focus on isolating the muscle you’re working out and you will progress even faster this way. I promise…
