What Are the Benefits of Having A Personal Trainer/Coach?

What are the benefits of having a coach? Is it Necessary?

Although most people have never had a personal trainer, I think it’s a great and necessary experience, even if it’s for a short period of time. Now I know what you’re saying. “But Nick, you are a personal trainer of course you’re going to say that”. Even though this is true, I’ve even had coaching myself! There’s always someone who either knows more or can see it from a different perspective that may help you.

Here’s a few better questions to ask yourself..

  1. If someone can get you to reach your goals faster, wouldn’t you take that opportunity? 
  2. If someone was where you wanted to be, wouldn’t you want to ask them for advice on how they got there?
  3. If you’re unsure on your form or diet or even number of reps and rep ranges, wouldn’t you want to have someone that knows your goals to guide you?

It’s almost a no brainer when it really comes down to it. Of course it’s an expense but you’re investing in yourself and getting SO much value. It’s really easy to go spend a few $100 a week on alcohol and unnecessary clothes you want, but nobody wants to pay for something that’ll value you forever! 

These are things you’ll carry with you for the rest of your workout career and that’s why it doesn’t have to be a forever thing. You can take what you learned over a few weeks/months and apply it on your own. And if you have an awesome trainer like myself, you’ll always be able to reach out to him/her for any further questions in the future after building a good relationship.  

The one thing to make sure of before committing to a coach is to make sure they are a good fit for you. Just because a trainer worked for your friend doesn’t mean they’ll work well for you. Everyone has different goals and body types. If I wanted to get good at baseball, I wouldn’t hire a lacrosse coach to teach me.
