What to do when you experience joint pain

If you’re someone who experiences joint pain you’ve come to the right place…

For those calisthenics and gymnastics athletes out there, you know this feeling all too well.

If you workout long enough you will experience some sort of joint pain. Whether it’s the elbows, knees, shoulders, hips; it’s all a nuisance.

So what do you do when this happens? Sure you can take supplements like glucosamine or collagen. This will help, but only so much.

The real way to help your joints is through rehabbing them. Remember, our joints are where two bones meet. The bones are connected with ligaments, while tendons connect bone to muscle. You also have cartilage that serves as padding between bones.

So yes, there’s a lot that goes on in your joints. Applying a lot of pressure to them over the course of time will cause them to break down. So how do I rehab them besides taking supplements?

RESISTANCE BANDS!!

I can honestly tell you resistance bands saved my shoulder. After labrum surgery I still wasn’t the same. Along with stretching thoroughly I would implement resistance band training. I did simple exercises in an attempt to strengthen the ligaments and tendons surrounding my shoulder. IT WORKED!

At first it hurt. THAT’S OKAY! Over time I continued to do the exercises and it got better and better. Now I’m at the point where I won’t even think about doing any type of workout without using resistance bands first to warm up.

So why does this work? Resistance bands are different from anything else in the gym. As they stretch, tensions increase. So for every inch it stretches, it could mean adding up to 5 pounds of resistance. You can’t really get this with weights or cable machines. Because of this, you have to stabilize the joint your working on much more than you would with a stagnant weight. And what happens when you try to stabilize any movement? You activate your ligaments and tendons in the joint.

So by using resistance bands you will strengthen the inner part of the joint opposed to the large muscle groups surrounding the area. That’s why you feel that internal burn when using them unlike with weights or cables.

By strengthening the ligaments and tendons you will increase the stability of the joint and you will be in less pain. It’s like magic!

So start using resistance bands ASAP! If you don’t have any, you can buy them off my website linked below. And if you don’t know what workouts to do for the area that bothers you, check out my youtube or do a simple search on youtube for the specific area you’re looking to strengthen.
