Discipline VS Motivation

Now just to clarify, when it comes to working out, these two words do NOT mean the same thing.

Motivation can be defined as “the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way”

While Discipline is “the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior””

So throughout our fitness journey, motivation is going to come and go. Even when you remember why you started in the first place (your reason), the excuses to not workout start creeping in.

You’re not alone!!

Everyone experiences this, however this is where discipline comes into play.

When you hold yourself to your word and go to the gym despite not wanting to, those are the days we actually get stronger.

Anybody can workout when they feel like it, but what separates you from the rest is discipline! If you made the commitment to yourself to start working out 4 days a week, then hold yourself accountable. Motivation isn’t always going to be there but it’s a part of the process to be mentally tough and overcome the urge to stop.

Let’s say it’s the last day of the week and you only worked out 3 times. You had a busy week, you have some errands to run to prepare for next week, and you just want to relax for the rest of the day. You’re unmotivated to workout despite what you said about 4 days a week, therefore it’s very easy to take the day off.

But remind yourself that you’re only cheating yourself! All we have in this world is our own words so if you say something, be disciplined enough to do it. Just imagine how accomplished you’ll feel afterwards too.

So just take an extra second next time you want to skip a workout and remind yourself of this.

If you’re not Disciplined, you’ll never get to where you desire…
