Working out is a lifestyle

Nothing is better than the guy who tells me “I’m going to be super committed and come to the gym 6-7 days a week, every week”. My first response to this type of person is “no you’re not”.

And here’s why…

You may do this for about a month, IF THAT, and then fall off completely. It’s not sustainable and quite honestly it’s not healthy! You can’t go 100% in the gym 6-7 days a week for the rest of your life. Your body will get run down, you’ll probably get sick or just feel drained every day.

The REAL problem is people think they’re going to workout for a few months and see results, then stop and be good to go. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Working out and living a healthy lifestyle has to be a commitment for LIFE!! Not for a few weeks, not for a few months, not even for a few years, but FOREVER!

Now this might intimidate some of you, but here’s the best way to break it down. You want to be healthy for as long as possible right? You want to feel good and energized every day right? You want to be able to get up and move around, play with your kids and grandkids right? Then you have to take the necessary steps every day to do so. This means getting your body moving regularly while muscle strength training 3-5 days a week. If you’re crazy like me you can do 6 days a week HOWEVER, the only way to sustain this is by not going 100% every day. Some days will be harder than others and some days I don’t even strength train, but I do cardio only to get my heart rate up. Either way it’s important to stay active and train your muscles regularly.

Another important thing to remember is to listen to your body. Some days my body feels weak and tired so I may not go as hard as I usually may but that doesnt mean the work still doesn’t get done! Unless I’m sick or I’m really not feeling right, I suck it up and do something even if it’s not to my best ability. You have to be disciplined, but smart in the way your body is reacting to the workouts and the food you’re eating.

At the end of the day, working out is a lifestyle. It’s something that is forever and not just a time period. You’re always going to want to be healthy and be able to move around pain free until the day you die so take it day by day and remember the real reason you’re doing this.
